Responsibilities

Within UL’s Fire Equipment Services division you will conduct Nondestructive Testing inspections of welded aerial device components and ultrasonic inspection of critical mounting bolts and pins on automotive fire apparatus aerial devices. Witness operational testing of water pumps, electrical systems, and aerial devices as the apparatus manufacturer facilities around the Ephrata, PA area. Possible inspection of in-service firefighting apparatus (aerial devices, pumps, ground ladders, and electrical systems) at the fire department locations around Omaha and the surrounding states. Prior NDT experience and ASNT Level II Certification in Visual Inspection, Magnetic Particle Inspection, and Ultrasonic Inspection is preferred.Punctual, self-motivated, conscientious, detail-oriented individual to conduct NDT inspections and witness operational testing of automotive fire apparatus, certifying the apparatus to a National Standard for the safety of the fire fighters and communities they serve.

  • Investigates the misuse of UL Mark.
  • Provides general information on policies and procedures for the varied UL services along with promoting and explaining the benefits of new and existing services.
  • Discusses procedures, test methods, test results, sample selection and variations in products, devices, processes, systems and materials as necessary to resolve problems, implement changes to existing requirements or help develop new requirements.
  • Uses instruments to perform inspections, such as micrometers, voltmeters, ammeters, and other UL supplied equipment.
  • Observes use of manufacturers equipment necessary to meet UL requirements.
  • Confirms proper calibration of manufacturers measuring equipment and may perform calibration of UL supplied equipment.
  • Documents examination, variations and test results to appropriate UL forms.
  • Maintains logs for scheduling inspections, time and expenses.
  • Performs various calculations in more than one specific engineering field such as electrical, mechanical, chemical, or fire protection.
  • Resolves process, management system and possibly engineering issues associated with Variation Notices by analyzing and reporting on the acceptability of the variations.
  • Understands and applies HBSE (Hazardous Based Safety Engineering) principles and concept correctly when necessary, during VN handling. Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
  • Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

Qualifications

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Experience with NDT and ASNT Level II Certification in Visual, Magnetic Particle, and Ultrasonic inspection is preferred.
  • Candidate must possess a strong mechanical/electrical aptitude and technical ability.
  • Strong verbal communications skills, and client-interfacing skills.
  • Ability to consistently lift up fire safety equipment averaging weight of 35-70 lbs without assistance.
  • Ability to maneuver in confined spaces to conduct inspections on assembled and unassembled fire safety equipment.
  • Role will be located onsite in our Ephrata, PA location

  • Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career . The estimated salary range for this position is $60000 to $70000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 5% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
