Cad Design Technician Intern

Responsibilities

The Design Technician will be responsible for designing, drafting components and system for wastewater treatment plants. This position will be responsible for supporting the Systems Engineering team.

The Design Technician responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Develop and use design libraries and processes using Solidworks and PDM
  • Design development and preparation of drawings in Solidworks including but not limited to:
  • Equipment General Arrangements and sections
  • Piping
  • Pipe supports
  • Skids and platforms
  • Fabrication details
  • BOM’s
  • Fabricated components typically in carbon, stainless steel, and aluminum.
  • Designing tools and gages
  • Developing Scopes of works and Standard Operating Procedures relating to the fabrication and assembly if designs.
  • Performing stress analyses including Finite Element Analyses (FEA)
  • Familiar with Canadian standards and American codes such as CSA Z662, CSA Z245, CSA W59, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, ASME BPE, MSS SP-58
  • Supports project team in development of design documentation, plans and reports for relevant project design elements.
  • Recognizes opportunities to develop innovative technologies and contributes knowledge and ideas for successful implementation.
  • Prepares and revises documentation in various project phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details.

  • Review of shop drawings and submittals, responds to requests for information, prepares site observation reports, and performs other contract administration tasks.
  • The development of job specific discipline specifications.
  • The evaluation and selection of mechanical systems and materials.
  • Preparation of cost estimating activities.
  • Review of hazard identification, risk assessment and prevention through design processes.
  • Assembly of systems at the factory including prototype, pilots, and production units.

Integrate and work with the company and project stakeholders including but not limited to:

  • Attend project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants and clients.
  • Perform on-site design services
  • Work both independently and as a contributing team member within a multi-discipline team.
  • Execute engineering deliverables on multiple projects in a dynamic work environment.
  • Complete required mechanical calculations for equipment sizing, material selection, etc.
  • Adhere to all Fibracast Policies, including but not limited to Health & Safety.

Working Relationships

  • This position will support the Systems Engineering team and will report directly to a Lead Designer

Education Requirements

Competencies

  • 3D and 2D design, using at least one of:
  • Solidworks, Autocad, and/or Bentley Microstation software.
